Slax - быстрый и компактный дистрибутив операционной системы Linux с возможностью загрузки с CD или USB-устройства. Вопреки малому размеру Slax включает в себя большое количество программного обеспечения. Все необходимое имеется на дистрибутивном диске. В перечень программ входят инструменты для восстановления системы, что делает Slax удобным инструментом для системного администратора. Особенностью данного дистрибутива является модульная структура, что позволяет очень просто модифицировать его для своих целей - необходимо просто скачать модуль и скопировать его в Slax, никаких дополнительных настроек не требуется. Кроме работы в режиме LiveCD возможна установка на жесткий диск. Что касается USB-версии, то она может загружаться практически с любого устройства, даже с MP3-плеера или фотокамеры.


SLAX is fast and beautiful Linux operating system which fits on small (3.14") CD-ROM disc. It runs directly from the CD (or USB) without installing. The Live CD described here is based on the Slackware Linux distribution and uses Unification File System (also known as unionfs), allowing read-only filesystem to behave as a writable one, saving all changes to memory.

Imagine the ability to boot your favorite Linux distribution whether you are at home, at school, or at work. Imagine walking on the street and carrying the only thing you needed in life - the 8cm compact disk with your Live Linux CD.
When your computer boots from the LiveCD, the first step is loading the kernel image (vmlinuz). After this, a 4 MB ramdisk is created in the computer's RAM. The rootdisk image (initrd.gz) is then unpacked into it and mounted as a root filesystem. Large directories (like /usr) are mounted directly from the CDROM.

Changes in version Slax 6.1.0:
- This should be the last Slax 6.x
- no more new features will be added to Slax 6.x, only bugfixes
- added fake XDM to 002-xorg, so it will start fluxbox if KDE is not present. This is mainly useful if you use 'build slax' and you only include Slax Core and Slax Xorg.
- upgraded to Slackware-current as of the last changes before KDE4 were added
- added new wallpaper
- fixed a lot of fluxbox-related bugs in order to make 'Slax Xorg' part independent,
- now you can (even in fluxbox) see accurate (preferred) screen resolution and it plays a startup sound too
